Update on 22.7.2012: We're happy to finally release the English version of the documentary, exactly one year after returning from the canoe trip in search for the Saimaa Ringed Seal. Our aim was to present a balanced yet personal story of the seal and its meaning to people living close to the lakes. Watch it here or

Update on 25.2.2012: The first version of the trailer is now ready (above and

The Seal of Saimaa is an indie nature documentary about the Saimaa Ringed Seal, an extremely endangered freshwater seal that lives in Lake Saimaa in Finland. The documentary explores the place and symbolism of the seal in the past and today, from the viewpoint of the people living from the lake and further afield.
It is also a story of two brothers who grew up on the lakeside and now return to their home, with a mission to chart where the closest seals now live.
The documentary is currently in post production and
has been partly funded on Indiegogo.com! We greatly appreciate your support.
